Ministry Spotlight: Prayer Shawl

The Westgate Prayer Shawl Ministry is group of ladies who wish to glorify God by using their needlework talents to love and support others. We meet together monthly to knit and crochet many items to be given to those facing various needs in our community. It is our great joy to share God’s love, while also enjoying the fellowship and mutual prayer support within our group.

Since we began, we have donated over 250 premie blankets to the Framingham Metrowest Hospital, and 150 scarves for the Seafarer’s Mission in Boston. We have also made over 70 Prayer shawls and lap blankets for those who are ill, mourning the loss of a loved one, or facing challenging life transitions. Along with our prayers for its recipient, we include a special tag with a Bible verse and contact information for Westgate Church.

This fall we are making scarves to be given out to the homeless in Boston. It is our prayer that while our scarves warm the bodies of the needy, Christ will warm each heart.

We welcome ladies of all ages and abilities and have many who are willing to help beginners who wish to develop their skills! We gladly accept donations of yarn for these projects. We meet informally on the third Saturday of each month in the church parlor. If you’d like to learn more, please contact Linda Jarrett at linjarrett @ verizon.net.

“From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together…perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 4:16 (NLT & HCSB)
