What to Expect on Sunday Morning

What to Expect on Sunday Morning

If you are looking for a church or just exploring the Christian faith, we would love to have you join us on a Sunday morning. Come meet us, see what we do, and participate only in the activities you feel comfortable with.

Here are a few COMMON QUESTIONS about what to expect when visiting for the first time.

What should I wear?

Clothes are a good idea. Beyond that, we're not picky. God is far more interested in our hearts than our appearance. So we invite people to wear whatever they are comfortable worshipping in. For some that's a coat and tie; for others it's blue jeans. But we invite everyone to come with a heart ready to meet the living God of the universe, remembering that it is only by his grace in Jesus that we are able to draw near to God.

What happens when I arrive?

When you arrive you'll be greeted by a friendly person who can help answer any questions or help you find your way to the sanctuary or the proper classroom for your child. When you go into the sanctuary, you'll receive a worship folder that will guide you through the morning's service.

What do we do during the service?

Worship is about making much of God. Therefore we want our time to be shaped by the Scriptures and centered on God, who graciously invites us into his presence through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ.

During the service we'll spend our time praying, singing, reading Scripture, and hearing a message from the Bible. Some Sundays we'll celebrate the Lord's Supper (Communion) or rejoice as new Christians are baptized. Some Sundays the choir encourages and instructs us in God's Word musically. The worship folder will guide you through the service, and we'll provide simple instructions along the way to help you know when to do things like stand or sit.

In terms of music, we sing a blend of old and new songs and hymns, some accompanied by a guitar and band, others by an organ. We value the generational diversity we have, and the diversity of musical style that comes with it, even as we unite under our common Head, Jesus Christ.

Because the Bible is the very Word of God, we place a high value on the preaching of Scripture. We want every sermon to be faithful to the Bible, centered on the gospel of Jesus, and helpful for day to day life. We typically preach through books of the Bible, and generally alternate our series between Old and New Testaments.

What about my kids?

During the service we provide nursery for children under 3, and a preschool class for children over 3 but not yet in Kindergarten. Children K-5th grade usually begin with us in the service. Shortly after the service starts, an adult leader will take them downstairs for Kids Journey, which includes fun, age-appropriate Bible lessons, video discusion starters, applicational teaching, prayer, singing, fun activities and related crafts. You're also welcome to keep your child with you if you prefer.

What else goes on Sunday mornings?

From mid-September through mid- June our service begins at 10:30am. You're welcome to join us before the service during the 9:30 hour for a variety of learning opportunities for children, junior and senior high students, and adults. After the service we would love for you to stick around for a little while so that we can meet you. On the third Sunday of the month, we host a coffee hour immediately following the service, which is also a nice occasion for getting to know one another better.
