Peer Servants is an all-volunteer organization that
partners with other mission organizations in establishing micro-enterprise
development (MED) programs in the Two-Thirds World. MED is a very
simple activity wherein small amounts of capital and basic business
training are provided to prospective entrepreneurs to enable them
to start and sustain small businesses, thereby supporting themselves,
their families and their communities. Peer Servant's role with the
partnership assumes seven forms:
-
Consulting: Providing insight in how to design
the MED program to achieve optimal results given the location,
environment, and strengths of the partnering organization.
-
Training: Preparing the staff of the partner to
be able to effectively oversee the operations of the MED program.
-
Funding: Providing loan capital funds and operational
funds until the point in time where the partner's MED program
becomes financially self-sustaining (generally a five-year period).
-
Capacity Building: Working with the partner to
enhance their ability to grow their program, focusing on areas
of administrative efficiency, board management, and participating
entrepreneur business training materials.
-
Encouraging: Maintaining frequent contact via
e-mail, monthly contact via phone, and generally annual in person
contact to review the results of the program, plan for the future,
and audit written reports reflecting the program results.
-
Networking: Establishing ties between partners
so that they can learn from and encourage each other.
-
Praying: Supporting our partner, their staff
and their program, by praying for them regularly.
Peer Servants now has 11 partnerships, grouped by region:
-
Africa (Nigeria and South Africa)
-
Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam)
-
Caribbean (Bahamas and Haiti)
-
Eurasia (Moldova)
-
Latin America (Mexico and Peru)
Prayer Requests:
-
For wisdom and effectiveness in growth and different
cultural contexts.
-
For God's blessings on the small businesses.
-
That God would honor Himself through our efforts,
break down the stronghold that Satan has in many of our program
locations, and that many would become followers of Christ.
